Tooth Extraction in Sevenoaks
A tooth extraction is a dental procedure used to remove a tooth when it cannot be predictably retained or when removal is considered the most appropriate treatment option.
At Sevenoaks Dental & Implant Centre, we assess each tooth individually before recommending extraction. Where possible, your dentist will explain whether the tooth can be restored and discuss alternatives before you make a decision about treatment.
If you have a painful, damaged, infected or severely decayed tooth, arrange a dental assessment so that the cause of the problem can be identified and the most appropriate treatment discussed.
What Is a Tooth Extraction?
A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jaw.
Although dentists generally aim to preserve natural teeth whenever this is clinically possible, there are circumstances where removing a tooth may provide the safest or most appropriate solution.
Your dentist will examine the tooth and surrounding tissues before recommending extraction.
Why Might a Tooth Need to Be Removed?
There are several reasons why a tooth may require extraction.
- Extensive tooth decay
- A tooth that has fractured or broken beyond predictable repair
- Severe infection
- Advanced gum disease affecting the supporting tissues
- A tooth that cannot be restored successfully
- Some wisdom tooth problems
- Teeth that need to be removed as part of certain orthodontic treatment plans
- Other dental conditions where removal is clinically appropriate
Extraction is not automatically the first option for a painful tooth. Your dentist will assess the tooth and discuss whether it can be treated and retained.
